The CQ University Rockhampton Cyclones are proud to announce that they have secured Lara McSpadden for the 2022 Coles Express NBL1 season. McSpadden, who is currently playing for the Townsville Fire in the WNBL will return to Rockhampton following her WNBL commitments.
General Manager, Wade Rebetzke said, “Lara was a priority for the club to sign for the 2022 season. She proved last year to be a dominant player in the league, winning the NBL1 North Under 23 player of the year and with another WNBL season under her belt we believe Lara is only going to improve on 2021. Most importantly, Lara is a quality person who wants the best for the club, and we can’t wait to have her back in Cyclones colours in 2022.”
Coach Drew Fenton knows McSpadden extremely well having coached her in her junior days in New South Wales and said, “It will be good to get back on the floor with Lara and I’m committed to helping her to take her game to the next level again next season. I will be looking to Lara for some leadership and to be that mentor for our junior players in the association.”
Lara is super excited in returning to the Cyclones and said, “I’m thrilled to be signing with the Rockhampton Cyclones again this season. I can’t wait to get back and get into it with the girls so we can continue to build on our on-court relationship from last season and put more wins on the board when we’re on the road and especially for the best home fans in the league.”
