After much deliberation and many lengthy discussions, Schwarz Excavations Rockhampton Rockets combo guard, Nikau McCullough will be taking up an opportunity that has been provided to him to play in the CEBL (Canadian Elite Basketball League) commencing in late May. Unfortunately for Rockets fans it will mean that Nikau will not be in Rockets colours for the remainder of the 2023 Coles Express NBL1 Season and he will be joining the Calgary Surge in CEBL from this week.
General Manager, Wade Rebetzke said, “ We are an organisation that likes to provide our players the chance to play at the highest level possible both within Australia and internationally and the opportu
nity that Nikau has been given may open up many more options internationally for him as a player in the future, and as a club, we want to support that. We would have loved for Nikau to stay and finish out the season with us, but we understand the opportunity that has been presented to him is a good one. I know this has been an extremely difficult decision for Nikau as he has really enjoyed his time with the Rockets program and has fit in extremely well with the group since his arrival.
We wish Nikau nothing but success in Canada and I hope that we will see him return to the Rockets in the NBL 1 North competition in future years.”
Nikau McCullough said, “My time here in Rockhampton has been amazing. The way the coaches, organization & community welcomed m me into their city made it an extremely tough decision to leave. I wish nothing but the best for this group moving forward and the remainder of the season.”
Thank you Nikau!
