Rockhampton Basketball Inc. are excited to announce the signing of Drew Fenton to the organisation in the Player and Coach Development Manager role. Drew will also be taking on the role of CQ University Cyclones Head Coach in 2022.
Fenton has a wonderful basketball background and has been involved in development roles over a 20-year period, most recently working with Kilsyth Basketball as the player and coaching development manager.
General Manager Wade Rebetzke is extremely happy with the appointment and said, “The growth in the sport over the past two years in the region has been wonderful and our association needed to help service the rise in numbers and continue with that growth. After my initial conversations with Drew, I knew he was the right candidate to help drive the association forward even further. The experience that Drew has in this space is extensive and I believe he will bring a lot to the organisation to help us continue to expand in many areas, I am looking forward to working with Drew to further grow and develop the association.”
Drew was also extremely pleased with the new direction, “I am looking forward to joining the team at Rockhampton Basketball and continue the growth of the sport in the region with the aim of basketball being the sport of choice for kids in Rockhampton. Programs will be available to athletes from beginners through to the elite level with a system & style of play implemented throughout Rockhampton Basketball."
Fenton will also take on the role of CQ University Cyclones head coach from the 2022 season. He has had experience in coaching at the State & National Junior, USA system as level as well as with the NBL 1 South competition as the Assistant Coach for Kilsyth before the season was cancelled due to COVID and we believe he is the man to lead the Cyclones for the 2022 NBL 1 North season and beyond.
“Drew is keen to continue coaching at the senior level and we believe that he can bring a fresh approach to the Cyclones group this season. The group is currently looking to secure several players from last season’s roster along with adding some key pieces in preparation for the 2022 NBL1 North season” Rebetzke said.
Rebetzke further added, “I want to thank Ben Greany for his commitment to the program last year and persistence to improve the team as difficult as the season was. In what was an extremely difficult year Ben’s character and love for Rockhampton Basketball was evident. Due to an increased workload with his local business, Ben has decided to concentrate on the business at this time. We wish Ben well and I know he is still keen to stay involved with the junior program and help continue to develop our future Rockets and Cyclones.”
Fenton will be arriving and starting in his position with Rockhampton Basketball in mid-November.
